AAUW offers scholarships for returning female students in the western suburbs
A $3000 scholarship is being offered to EC women 25 and over for the 2018-2019 school year by the Elmhurst branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
The scholarship is aimed at local women of the western suburban area looking to return to school to further pursue their undergraduate education. The scholarship requires the applicants be residents of Elmhurst, Addison, Bensenville, Berkley, Northlake, Oak Brook or Villa Park.
Applicants can be attending classes either part time or full time granted they are taking at least 12 credit hours at an accredited college or university.
Women eligible to receive this scholarship have until April 1, 2018 to apply.
The scholarship is being offered by the AAUW, non-for profit organization that aims for the equality and advancement of women and has over 1000 branches nationwide. The AAUW describes its mission as, “to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research at both the national and local levels.”
The Elmhurst Branch of the AAUW has been funding the education of women for over 50 years by sponsoring an annual used book sale in.

Dr. Tina Kazan accepts new position as Assistant Dean of Academic Success
Associate English professor Tina Kazan will take on the new role of Associate Dean of Academic Success according to a campus-wide email sent out on Tuesday Jan. 30.
In the new position, Kazan will deal with decisions pertaining to the Learning Center such as Tutoring Services, Access and Disabilities Services and the Literacy Center.
Kazan currently serves as an Associate professor in the English department where she is teaching composition and capstone courses. She has also previously served as the Director of the Writing Program and was a member of the Learning Center task force.
The campus-wide email announcing Kazan’s new title came from Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty April Edwards, who specified that Kazan would be moving into her new role starting in July of 2018.
