The Department of Student Activities organized a donation drive in the Frick Center for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. It lasted from Aug. 30 until Sept. 8.

In an email sent to the Elmhurst College (EC) community, Vice President of Student Affairs Phil Riordan called the campus to “act on our social responsibilities and call others to do the same.”

Donations aiding in the process of cleaning up the aftermath included utilities such as five-gallon buckets, reusable cleaning towels, sponges, dust masks and work gloves.

Other requested donations went towards rebuilding schools and hygienic assistance; such items consist of notebooks, pencils, crayons, washcloths and soap.

A final count on donations will follow the drive’s closing, and will be sent to a UCC Church in the Houston Area.

For those who wish to lend their support in other ways, Chaplain Scott Matheney has organized a gathering on the Frick Center patio on Sept. 13 to discuss how support efforts on campus will occur.
